How To Read My Books

I know. It sounds silly. But there's an order in which my books need to be read. I made this page to tell you that order, and to explain why it's important.

You see, I started out writing books where Callie Simmons was my main protagonist. Fine. So, while none of my books contradict anything that happens in any other I've written, and, yes, they are all technically in the same universe, they weren't really all connected. For instance, Shedding Sadness is a standalone novel. Not meant to connect to anything else I've written. And I'll never revisit any of the characters from that book, in all likelihood. Well, likewise, Chasing Comets was meant to be a standalone book.

Well, as it turns out, my protagonist from that book, Tanis Ransom, has shown up in some of my other books, intermingling my once-separated story kingdoms. So, as you could imagine, it now becomes important to have read Chasing Comets before the other books in which she makes cameo appearances. Otherwise you wouldn't understand why the other characters are so excited about meeting her.

So as it comes down, my other two character kingdoms converge in Day of the Dogwood. I didn't know it was going to happen. I didn't plan it. It wasn't something I had expected. That's just where the characters took me. And I will never deny them their reality. That's what makes my characters so believable, if I might be allowed to brag a little. And when these character sets converge, so do their pasts. Their histories. Their stories. So, now it's not just preferred that you read certain books in a certain order. Now it's absolutely necessary.

So, without spoiling anything, or telling you which stories begin to mix, here is that order:

  1. Midnight's Park
  2. Resurrecting Mars
  3. Chasing Comets
  4. Into the Darkness
  5. Red Bell
  6. A Flutter in the Window
  7. Hello, World
  8. Day of the Dogwood

Shedding Sadness does not appear in the list, as it doesn't matter to the order. I would, though, suggest reading it before or after all the others, rather than somewhere in the middle.

I hope this is helpful, and not too confusing. And hey - I'm not unapproachable. Send me an email if you have questions, or catch me on my author page on Goodreads.

Unncessary Author's Note: I would like to impose upon my potential readers a favor: be patient through my first two books. I was a young writer and had not yet honed my writing down to a finely tuned craft yet. In that regard, there is a lot of science explained that likely does not need explaining. I felt like I had to justify my science. I have since learned that I don't. I tell you something is the way it is, and you either trust me and read on, or you don't, and you put the book down. You will, therefore, see a lot more maturity in this regard when you make it to Into the Darkness and beyond. Thank you for bearing with me on this. I could edit those books again, but they've been around so long now, I feel like I would be better off just rewriting the entire things. - brandon
